The Children’s Center has been involved with a broad range of programs with a number of organizations including:
- National Child Traumatic Stress Network - In September 2009, The Children’s Center was awarded a three year $1.2 million federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This wonderful recognition of our clinical services allows us to become part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative, and will effectively help us become a nationally known Trauma Center for families with very young children. Our program will be called the Safety Net Program for Families with Young Children. Under The Children’s Center’s direction, the program will provide evidence based trauma treatment for families who reside in four metropolitan counties: Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, and Weber.
-
Allies with Families – The Children’s Center has worked closely with this agency because of their focus on parental support and intervention. We routinely provide training on early childhood development, psychiatric disorders impacting young children, and parent training workshops for their parent advocates. Additionally, we integrated the agency into our recent statewide training program to help train parent advocates for families with young children throughout the state of Utah
-
Baby Watch of Utah – This highly acclaimed early intervention program frequently relies on The Children’s Center staff to provide integrative training for their home visiting programs. Two years ago, we collaborated on a statewide grant to provide critical mental health training to Developmental Specialists who were providing at-home intervention for children with disabilities. Finding they lack the necessary training for managing the behavioral problems of their clientele, the Development Specialists turned to The Children’s Center staff to provide them with the necessary training.
-
Children with Special Health Care Needs – This early intervention program provided through the Health Department provides psychiatric and medical assessments for young children with disabilities. Children needing mental health care are referred to The Children’s Center. Conversely, The Children’s Center staff refer children from our program who require comprehensive medical assessments.
-
Christmas Box House – This private organization has developed a system of shelter homes providing immediate care for children removed from their parent’s care by the Division of Children and Family Services. The Children’s Center provides on-site assessment and consultation to help staff determine when it is appropriate to refer a child to our residential unit or other treatment programs. In addition, the Christmas Box House staff has relied on The Children’s Center’s expertise to train their paraprofessionals in the day-to-day management of children in the shelter.
-
Division of Child and Family Services – The Children’s Center has enjoyed a long and very positive relationship with DCFS. We are the primary treatment site for young children in foster care and, as such, provide ongoing consultation and training for their caseworkers.
-
Neighborhood House - This is one of the oldest and largest daycare programs in the city. As a United Way partner we have a long-standing collaboration with their staff; providing on-site consultation and training to prevent behavior problems, and providing our mental health services to children who are unable to succeed in their program.
